Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, claimed Monday that the social media platform had been the target of a "massive cyberattack" after outages left it unavailable for thousands of users.
"There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X," Musk said in a post.
He claimed, "We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources," and "either a large, coordinated group or a country is involved."
"IP addresses in Ukraine," Musk says. Later on, Musk said in an interview with Fox Business that the computer systems used in the alleged attack appeared to have IP addresses in Ukraine. However, he did not immediately provide any evidence to back up his claim. However, this does not necessarily imply that the attack originated in Ukraine, according to some cybersecurity experts. At its peak, around 10 a.m., nearly 40,000 users initially reported issues with X. Time zone: US East Coast (2 p.m. UTC) on Monday, according to Downdetector.com, a tracking website. The number then changed a lot, dropping a lot before rising to almost 35,000 around noon and then falling again. Since Musk's acquisition of X in 2022, the platform that was previously Twitter has been plagued by numerous issues.
