Clevedon's Boxing Day run has been taking place for more than 40 years

More than 1,000 people dressed in an array of festive outfits took part in a town's Boxing Day run.

Clevedon Athletic Club has been hosting the north Somerset four-mile (6.4km) race since 1977. Race director Andy Heyes called it a "massive tradition".

Thursday's event started at 11:00 GMT at the Little Harp Pub, Clevedon, and there was also a 3km junior run.

Firefighter Ross Larner took part in the run, he said: "We're on call and this has become a bit of a tradition, this is the third year in a row."

Firefighters Ash Walker, Ross Larner and Henry Kent started attending the race three years ago

Friends Megan Powell and Jess Heffer both took part - Ms Powell is a regular to this race, but it was a new one for Ms Heffer.

Lots of runners were wearing festive attire

The fastest time was 18 minutes, 58 seconds

Dozens of people also turned out to support the runners
