No-one will win a trade war', says China after Trump vows to hike tariffs on day one in office
Donald Trump says he will introduce 25% tariffs on goods coming from Canada and Mexico on day one of his presidency
He also says he'll add an extra 10% on goods coming from China - imports from there to the US are already subject to some tariffs
For context: A tariff is a tax paid on goods as they enter a country. The company importing the goods pays the tax, not the foreign company that exports them
Trump says the tariffs are in response to "crime and drugs" coming across the southern and northern borders of the US
China calls it "irresponsible" and warns that no-one will win a trade war, our correspondent Laura Bicker writes
Doug Ford - leader of Canada's most populous province, Ontario - says a 25% tariff would be "devastating to workers and jobs" while the head of Mexico's Senate says the US needs to stop consuming drugs
